I joined this program at a time in my life when I actually had time. I was trained and certified in a month and I worked with my partner, Louis C., for a year. In that year we worked through to level four. This means that Louis passed four comprehension tests on reading material that graduated in difficulty. We did not always follow the lesson structure suggested by the organization. We met instead at the home where he worked and lived, or at restaurants, and we read anything that interested him. Though he struggles with the printed word, he reads music and plays piano beautifully.
